Asian Dating and the Trials of Overseas

Asian ladies from the
Philippines, Thailand, China and Vietnam are increasingly being
courted by western men. Filipina ladies seem to draw the most
attention from foreign guys. This is rooted in the fact that
English is taught as a second language in the Philippines. Being
able to communicate effectively is a definite plus when trying to
form any relationship.
What this means is that many men
from abroad choose the Philippines when searching for an Asian
partner. Guys are also drawn to the traditional family values
found in Filipina women, which are said to be lacking in the
west. Finally, many American and European men have simply become
disillusioned with domestic dating. They have decided to try
their luck internationally.
While it is easy to
stereotype these couples, doing so does not change the fact that
most of the relationships are real. The social dynamics behind
it are too complicated to explain with the outdated "mail order
bride" terminology. Asian ladies are not delivered to men through
the postal service, and you cannot buy them off a shelf. This is
2009 and the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS)
verifies the legitimacy of any relationship before a couple can
begin their lives together.
As the webmaster at
Melinda's Filipina and Asian Dating I have seen thousands of
new members sign up. The ratio of western men to Filipina ladies
is about 50/50. Some stick around for years while others delete
their membership within hours. Most of my knowledge about
east/west couples comes from those that remain active on our
forum. Reading endless topics and threads has given me a first
hand perspective on these relationships. I can often predict
which members have a real shot at finding a lifetime partner by
reading their posts.
The members that have the most
success are in the least hurry to find someone. They are curious
and open to finding a partner, but they are not proclaiming their
love to other members after two weeks. They seem to move at a
certain pace which indicates they are interested but have not
lost their common sense.
The members that jump to fast,
get emotionally and financially involved too quickly, are the
ones that usually crash and burn. I truly believe that you cannot
hurry love. When people do they run the risk of falling in love
with the "process" and not the person on the other end of the
keyboard or web cam. This mistake seems to play out too often and
it is difficult to watch.
When Filipina ladies and western
men take the necessary time to really know each other the
outcomes can be rewarding. These include happy marriages,
families, and in many cases a life long commitment. However, even
for these couples there are many barriers. It will take the
ultimate commitment to overcome them. Besides the separation
issues, there are other complicating factors which can delay or
even derail things. The most common issues are usually financial,
and dealing with the USCIS. One cannot underestimate the toll
these two things alone can take on a couple.
I would just
like to conclude by saying that we all want happiness. Normally
this involves finding someone that we can share your hopes and
dreams with. Whether it is a the girl next door, or someone on
the other side of the world, geography no longer has to be the
deciding factor. However, international dating is still only
meant for people that are resourceful, sensible and dedicated to
the process.
